Beryl O. Roundy, 100, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services were Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Rev. Al Coffin officiated. Casket bearers were Tom Huston, Tom Patrick, John Smylie, Rich Bridenstine, Mark Huston, Steve Sents, John Carpenter and Dan Wilson. Honorary casket bearers were Jim Boardman, Michael Rees, Miriam Dircks, Lucille Smylie, Warren and Connie Lewis and Mark Shear. Following the services, a time of food and fellowship was held at the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post 100. Burial was in the Woodbine Cemetery of Woodbine, Iowa on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Military Rites by the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post #100. Beryl Osmer Roundy was born August 7, 1910 in Panama, Iowa, the son of Albert Ross and Ida Pearl (Razze) Roundy. He attended country school in the Panama area and the Woodbine High School. On March 15, 1931 Beryl was united in marriage to Wilma Sime Thomas in Deloit, Iowa. Beryl and Sime were owner/operators of the Econo-o-Mart Grocery Stores in Columbus Junction and Wapello. He was a World War II veteran, having served from 1941 to 1944 in the US Army Air Corps as a Flight Instructor Officer. He loved flying, and at one time owned a small aircraft. He was a 50-year member of the Masons, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Shriners, the Elks and the American Legion. Beryl spent his winters in Paradise Valley, Arizona, where he was a long time member of the Arizona Country Club. He was a member of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church and attended the Paradise Valley United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the game of golf and played until the age of 98.

Beryl will be dearly missed by his sister-in-law, Bonita Price of Denver, Colorado; his brother-in-law, Glenn Thomas of Davenport; sister-in-law, Connie Roundy of Council Bluffs; and many nieces and nephews.

Beryl was preceded in death by his parents; his cherished wife, Sime; sisters, Opal Brookhauser, Elsie Barrow and Eula Bridie; brothers, Lloyd Roundy and Harold Roundy; and one infant sister, Velma Ray Roundy.
