Elsie Jane Smith, 88, of Columbus Junction passed away Wednesday morning, July 13, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at her farm home in rural Columbus Junction.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Pastor Earlene Lekwa officiated. Casket bearers were Sam Smith, Nick Bickford, Britt Noble, Jered Gerot, Jack Robertson, Roy Robertson, Jerry Larimer and Joey Grelk. Burial was in the Cambrian Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday, July 16th from 1:00-2:00 P.M at the funeral home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Elsie’s name. Elsie Jane Griffith was born October 9, 1922, in the Welsh Community of rural Columbus Junction, the daughter of Edward Sr. and Agnes (Williams) Griffith. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1940, and on January 5, 1945 she was united in marriage to Wesley Smith, Jr. at the Crawfordsville Presbyterian Church. Elsie was a homemaker and farm wife, helping with many of the chores. She attended the Salem Welsh Church. She taught Bible School and Sunday School in the Church of Gladwin, and most recently she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Columbus Junction. Elsie was also a member of the Round the Mile Club and the Neighborhood Card Club. She enjoyed planting a big garden, canning, sewing, making quilts and raising her family.

Elsie will be dearly missed by her husband, Wesley of rural Columbus Junction; her children, Rose Britton and husband, Dwight of Cotter, Ed Smith and wife, Debbie of rural Columbus Junction and Nancy Bickford and husband, Terry of Breezy Point, MN; ten grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Clark Smith; brothers, Edward Griffith, Jr. and David Griffith; her sisters, Eleanor Davis, Margaret Griffith and Dorothy Williams.
