Deborah T. Waterhouse was born in Trenton, N.J. December 5, 1832, and subsequent to that time resided in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, finally coming to Iowa in May 1846. September 4, 1853 deceased was united in marriage to P. D. Bailey at Burlington. After a short residence at Mt. Pleasant they came to Louisa County where they have since resided. To them were born seven children, all of whom with the husband and father survive. They are: James M., of California; John C., near Oakville; Sarah Jane, wife of A. Wilson of Maxwell, Neb.; Amanda E., wife of Chas. Lee, of Wyoming; Wm., of Newport, Iowa; Taylor, of Oakville and Tirzah, wife of E. G. Erbes, of Boise City, Idaho.

Mrs. Bailey was one of the pioneers of our county, a most estimable woman, a kind and affectionate wife and mother, and neighbor and friend to all who knew her. The funeral was held from the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. A. Bentzinger. The pall bearers were six nephews of the deceased. Interment was in Creighton Cemetery.
