Donald Garland, 76, died at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA., on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Born July 15, 1934 in Morning Sun, Iowa, he was a member of the armed forces and made his home in Ohio.

After leaving the military he worked at Valley Seed. He took to the roads and retired as a truck driver and settled in Fredericksburg, VA.

He loved family and good food, but his passion was fishing.

Survivors include his wife Linda, her four children Connie, Tanner, Brenda and Ray. He is also survived by his children Lance, Gordan, Randy, Rick and Cassie. He had 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers, four sisters, and one grandson.

A graveside service was held at Quantico National Cemetery.

Note: Area residents may remember the Garland family as James, Charley, Freda, Cora, Steve, Peggy and Donald. They were the children of the late Fred and Retta Garland.
