Arthur Wilson

Arthur Vernon Wilson, 85, of Wapello, died Saturday night, July 12, 2003, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. The son of John Elmer and Martha Agnes Seitz Wilson, he was born June 2, 1918 in Columbus Junction. He married Madelene Johnson on February 2, 1939, in Burlington.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He farmed in the Wapello area until 1961 and then worked as a forklift operator at Heinz in Muscatine and retired in 1978.

He was a member of the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Wapello and the VFW Glenn Allen Post 5166 in Wapello. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Verna Michelle and Stan Fowler, Duarte, California, Donna Jean and Roger Winegar, The Woodlands, Texas, Judy and Rex Hoel of Nevada, Iowa, Carla and Jerry Heater, Wapello and Mary Ellen Wilson of Burlington; a son, Larry Vernon Wilson of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; fifteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Ruth Ann Peterson and Linda Walker; three sisters, Bessie Louise and Erma; and three brothers, Frank, Lewis, and an infant, John.

The funeral service for Vernon Wilson was held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Solid Rock Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating. Organ music was provided by Bev Parsons with vocal selections by Bev Moser. Burial followed at Parsons Cemetery, rural Wapello, with military rites by the Wapello VFW. Pallbearers included Richard Winegar, Kevin Wehage, Jereme Heater, Lance Walker, Lane Walker and Bob Locke.

The family met with friends Monday evening at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Community Ambulance Service.
