Donald Ball

Donald Lee Ball, 71, Columbus Junction, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, after an extended illness. Born December 30, 1931, in Joplin, Missouri, he was the son of Oscar and Ruby Maxwell Ball.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict during 1951-1953, and was a member of the Allen Wright Hanft Post $100 of the American Legion in Columbus Junction.

He worked at Therm-Ice Corporation as an over-the-road truck driver for 28 years until retiring in 1997.

He enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing and hunting, spending time with family and attending grandchildren’s events.

He is survived by his children, Randy Ball and his wife Tina of Muscatine, Rick Ball and his wife Denise of Letts, Linda Meeker and her husband Brian of Vinton and Mike Ball of Iowa City; stepson Rory Ball of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; sisters, Annabelle Kempf of Dixon, Missouri, Juanita Wood of Muscatine, Dorotha Kirchner of Springdale, Arkansas, Charlotte Jensen and her husband Jim of Muscatine; and sister-in-law, Donna Ball of Nichols.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Nelson Ball.

Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction.

In lieu of flowers the family requested memorial gifts be directed to the Allen Wright Hanft Post #100 of the American Legion.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction with Jim Jensen officiating. Burial was in the Letts Cemetery.

Following the cemetery committal there was a luncheon at the American Legion in Columbus Junction.
