Leona Beik Walter

Leona Beik Walter, formerly a resident of Burlington, died June 24, 2003 at age 95. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 5, at Lunning Funeral Chapel in Burlington, Iowa. Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at the Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Walter was born July 8, 1907 in Louisa County, a daughter of Frank and Mary “Molly” Beik. She married Don Walter in 1932. They lived in Burlington where Mr. Walter practiced law for 53 years. Widowed in 1998, she then lived in a retirement community near Phoenix, Arizona.

Mrs. Walter graduated from college in Cedar Falls and taught elementary schools in West Liberty and Burlington, Iowa for several years. She had been active in Kings Daughters and First Methodist Church in Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; a daughter, Donna Kay; one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Walter) Denz of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister (and best friend), Lucile (Beik) Smylie of Columbus Junction, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
