Ethel M. Padilla

Ethel Marie Padilla, 93 of Wapello died May 11, 2011 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. The daughter of Amos and Bertha (Hill) Hesler, she was born June 6, 1917 at Bloomington, Indiana. She married Ralph “Bill” Wilson in April of 1935 in Missouri; he died in February of 1961. In November of 1970 she married Arturo T. Padilla in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was a graduate of the Morning Sun High School class of 1934. She was a lifetime member of the O.E.S. and was a member of the Wapello United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Arturo Padilla of Wapello; two daughters, June Hardin and husband Don of Wapello and Joyce Helfter Jackson and husband Michael of Davenport; two stepchildren, Christina Matheson and Terry Padilla both of California; four grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one brother, Rodney L. Hesler of Davenport; and two sisters, Maxine Jack of Barnes City, Iowa and Joan Knowler of Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, one daughter and one sister.

The funeral service was at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Wapello United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun.

The family met with friends from 9:00 – 11:00 at the church prior to the service; there were no calling hours at the funeral home.

A memorial was established for the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
