Marjorie L. Prior

Marjorie L. Prior, 90, of Columbus Junction, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Colonial manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.

She was born December 4, 1912 in rural Columbus Junction, Iowa to Louis and Winifred Gipple Hall. In 1930 she graduated from Wyman High School where she had played and lettered in basketball. She married Lloyd F. Prior December 31, 1935, at the home of her uncle in rural Louisa County.

Mrs. Prior was a lifelong resident of the Columbus Junction area. She was a farmwife most of her life. She also worked as a cook for the Columbus Community School district for 10 years and she and her husband bussed kids to and from sports program activities in the 1970s.

She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, playing golf and the organ, and most of all, spending time with her family. She was a member of the Cedar Crest Country Club. She was an avid fan of the Hawkeyes and Cardinals. She was a lifetime member of the Shellbark Ladies Club and a member of the Spring Run Methodist Church.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction with the Rev. JoAnn Hary of the Spring Run United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Spring Run United Methodist Church or the Iowa City Hospice.

Survivors include the husband; four sons, Harry Prior and his wife, Polly, Larry Prior and his wife Judy, Marvin Prior and his wife, Verlinda, all of Columbus Junction, and Michael Prior and wife Beth of Winfield; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Bitting of Crawfordsville, Vera David of Winfield and Wanda Graber and husband Peter of Crawfordsville; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Hall of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, an infant grandson, and two brothers, Harold and Virgil “Jake” Hall.
