Edith Jackson-Rowe

Edith L. Jackson-Rowe, 89, formerly of Grandview and Burlington, died Saturday morning, February 26, 2011, at the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab in Mediapolis. Born April 10, 1921 in Grandview, Iowa, she was the daughter of henry W. and Osee E. Anthony Hingst. She married Melvin S. Jackson on December 30, 1937 in Muscatine. He died July 12, 1972. She later married Edward V. Rowe on March 20, 1977 in Burlington. He died July 1, 1995.

She graduated from Grandview High School in 1938. Edith worked 25 years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant before retiring. She had also volunteered in the reading literacy program and had worked 8 years for Reif Oil at the 34 Truck Stop.

She loved caring for her flowers and yard and enjoyed painting pictures. She made beautiful hand quilted quilts for her children and grandchildren.

Edith is survived by three sons, J. Gene (Ruth) Jackson of Wapello, M. Kenneth (Rosalinde) Jackson of Burlington, and Ronald (Delores) Jackson of Danville; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Nora Rexroth of Moline, Illinois; and a niece and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Melvin and Edward; and a sister, Henrietta Cooper.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011, with the Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Harlan Winter officiating.

Visitation was Wednesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family met with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab.
