Daniel W. Griffith, 83, a long time resident of the Cotter neighborhood, died Saturday morning at his home in Ainsworth after a serious illness of one week. He had been in failing health for several months.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, January 2, at two o'clock in the Methodist Church at Ainsworth. Rev. Carl Stiefel was in charge with burial in the Cambrian Cemetery near Cotter.

Mr. Griffith was born October 19, 1866 in Casanova, N.Y., the son of Thomas and Esther Griffith. He was married Sept. 14, 1892 to Jennie Roberts of Ainsworth.

He had been a resident of Washington and Louisa County for 73 years and was reared and educated in the Cotter neighborhood. For a time he was a farmer living 2 miles southeast of Ainsworth, moving into town several years ago. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Earl White of Davenport; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Hess Griffith of Cartrhage, Mo. Five brothers & five sisters preceded him in death.

The Richie Funeral Home was in charge.
