Roscoe Edward Eliason, son of John and Frances Shellabarger Eliason, was born near Letts, August 14, 1899 and spent his entire life in that community.

He attended the Letts public schools and later attended and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College at Mr. Pleasant.

He was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Hoffman at Farmington, Minnesota, June 23, 1925.

Although Mr. Eliason engaged successfully in farming and in recent years devoted some time to the development and propogation of chinchillas, he took a very active interest in a much broader field of local, state and even national service. He was active in the Farm Bureau and with other midwest farmers took a trip a few years ago to Europe and after returning spoke frequently at various public meetings. He also served on the Southeast Iowa Boy Scout Council and took a deep interest in the welfare of young people.

He was an active member of the Methodist Church at Letts, sang in the choir and served in various leadership capacities.

Fraternally he was a member of Masonic Orders and also of the Muscatine Rotary Club.

He was honored and esteemed by a wide circle of friends and neighbors who deeply mourn his passing.

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Ann Clague of Ottumwa, Iowa and one son, Kay Eliason of Jefferson, Iowa and by three grandschildren and one brother, Alan Eliason, of West Liberty.

Funeral rites were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Letts Methodist Church and were conducted by the Rev. Florence Resor Jardine and the Rev. James Rogers of Moline, Illinois.

Solist was Miss Mary Jane Gibson, who accompanied by Mrs. John Rex, organist, sang: "The Lord's Prayer."

Flower attendants were: Mrs. Harold McCormac, Mrs. Earle Wilson, Mrs. Cloyce Downer, Mrs. Horatio Small and Mrs. H. J. Austin.

Honorary pallbearers were John and Ray Schafer, Dean and Merle Dodder, Cloyce Downer and Horatio Small. Active casket bearers were Richard Shallabarger, Walter Elder, H. W. Eliason, J. E. Reaney, Carl Rylander and Kenneth Wagner.

Burial was in the Letts Cemetery.
