The death of Mr. Thos. Garvin, an aged and respected citizen or Morning Sun, occurred at his home on New Year's evening at about 5 o'clock, after an illness of about two weeks.

Mr. Garvin was born December 25, 1819, in Harrison county, Pennsylvania and came to Louisa county in the year 1855. He was three times married. In 1845 he was united in marriage to Mary A. Liggett, who died in 1856. Two children of that union survive, Mary A. Caughey, of Omaha, Neb., and W. B. Garvin, of Morning Sun. In 1857 he was again married, becoming the husband of Susan B. Cannon, who died in 1886. Seven children were born to this union, three of whom survive, Martha A. Brown, Agnes J. Campbell, and Margaret A. Hewitt. Mr. Garvin was married again in 1892 to Mrs. M. A. Wallace, who survives him.

He began the insurance business in the year 1866, and although in his eighty-seventh year, he was active until the last, attending to business matters until his last illness.

He was a faithful member of the Reformed Presbyterian church and a man that was honest and respected by all who knew him.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
