James Lewis Morris passed away at his home in this city Tuesday morning at 5:30 o'clock. He had been an invalid about four years with diabetes and was able to get around and assist himself up to a day or two prior to his death. The announcement was a shock to his many friends.

The deceased was born in Burlington, August 3, 1859, and at the time of his death was aged 47 years, four months and 28 days.
He came to Wapello with his parents while yet a babe and the major portion of his entire life has been spent in this city. His father gave his life for his country on the battlefield during the war of the rebellion, and "Jim" made his home with his mother until she was taken away at the ripe age of eighty-five years, since which time he lived alone. Of the immediate family deceased leaves two brothers and one sister: Thos. Morris, of Hannibal, Mo., Edward, of Utah, and Mrs. Mattie McCray, of Wapello. Edward could not arrive in time for the funeral.

Jim was a companionable fellow and made many £riends among men. Associates of his boyhood days together with relatives were with him during the last hours of his life.

The funeral services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. E. Newsom, pastor of the M. E. church, and were largely attended by old companions of the deceased and friends of the family. Interment in the Wapello cemetery.
