Joseph Blake d. in Louisa Co., IA Thurs. 14 Dec 1882. Obit. follows from the “Columbus Safeguard” in Columbus Junction, IA Thurs. 21 Dec. 1882.

Death of a Pioneer

Thursday, the 14th inst., the aged Joseph Blake died of palsy, after a lingering sickness of many weeks. Mr. Blake was born in Greenbrier county, Virginia in 1802, moved to this county in 1837, and settled on his farm in Oakland township where he has since lived. Mr. Blake had been married three times and was the father of eighteen children. He was a type of hardy old manhood which gave this nation strength and character, during the three-quarters of the present century. He was full of entegrity and honesty and lived for what life was worth. Through eighty years of age he possessed the bodily vigor of a man of fifty, and he preserved his mind clear and active. Joseph Blake’s name is connected with the history of this county since its formation. From a tramping ground of the Indians he has seen the county transformed into well settled farming communities. One by one the old landmarks are removed.
