SPITZNOGLE, WILSON, MILLER

Icel Lorene Spitznogle, 92, of Wapello, died Sunday afternoon, June 1, 2003, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. The daughter of Marquis Bertrum and Mamie Wilson Miller, she was born December 22, 1910, in Dallas Township, Marion County, Iowa. She married Allie Dale Spitznogle on March 18, 1949, at Beatrice, Nebraska.

She attended schools at Dallas, Iowa, and graduated from Dallas High School in 1927. She obtained her teaching degree from the now University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls. She taught school in rural Melcher/Dallas from 1929 – 1938 and taught at Dallas from 1938 – 1944. She then taught third grade at Wapello from 1944 – 1949.

Mrs. Spitznogle was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello and the UMW Ruth Circle and had taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed collecting plates and doing crossword puzzles along with being a wonderful homemaker.

She is survived by four sons, Dennis Spitznogle of Waterford, Penn., Gary Spitznogle of Wapello, Lyle Spitznogle of Wapello, and Marlin Spitznogle of Wapello; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allie, on Feb. 2, 1987; her parents, a son Kelvin; an infant daughter; and a brother, James Douglas Miller.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday June 5, at the United Methodist Church in Wapello with the Rev. Chris Thomas officiating. Organ music will be provided by Geneva Samuels with a special selection of “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers will be Warren Kemper, Harlan Hayes, Roger Noble, Burns McNeil, Richard Kerr and Matthews Spitznogle. Burial will follow at Parsons Cemetery, rural Wapello.

Visitation was Wednesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church in Wapello.
