Robert Eli Waterhouse, 84, of rural Mediapolis, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, doing what he wanted to do, farming. He was born March 20, 1919, in Des Moines County, the son of Roy R. and Esther M. Coder Waterhouse. On October 15, 1938, he married Irene Anna Tee, who died May 27, 1997. He farmed the Web Eads form for over 40 years until his health wouldn’t allow him to continue. He was an excellent carpenter and remodeled his daughter’s home. He was a veteran of World War II.

He was a devoted husband and father and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna and Dwight Martin of Sperry; one son, Kirk and Sue Kline of Mediapolis; grandson Robert Eli Kirby of Sperry and granddaughter DeAnna and Dale Turner of Danville; Krystal Fedoris and Jarad Kline; great-grandson Justin Eli Turner and great-granddaughter Audra Mae Irene Turner of Danville; one brother, Ralph Waterhouse of Mount Prospect, Ill.; four nephews; and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis with Dr. Jim Eads officiating. Interment followed at the Kossuth Cemetery.

The family met with friends Sunday evening at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established for Hope Haven of Burlington.
