Gerald Emery Scotton was born September 11, 1912, to Mark E. and Mabel Hullman Scotton in Page County, Iowa. He graduated from LaPrairie Rural School, Northboro, Iowa High School, and Clarinda Junior College. He married Jean McQueen in 1936. He farmed in Page County near Northboro, Iowa, all of his working life. He was a life-long member of the Northboro M.E. Church – later the United Methodist Church.

He was interested in history, books, the farm, and his rose gardens were spectacular year after year.

Gerald leaves his daughters, Bonnie Vaage and her husband, Birger of Heggedal, Norway; Connie Plank and her husband, Charles of Columbus Junction; and three grandchildren: they are Jodie Morin and her girls, Emma and Kate; Shawn Plank and his wife, Susan and their boys, Sam and Tom; and Andy Plank and his wife, Susan and their boys, Zachary and Brennan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his grandson-in-law, Ben Morin; and his sister, Gladys Woodhull.

He died at the Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction, Iowa, on June 28, 2009. Services will be held at Northboro United Methodist Church on July 1, 2009 at 2 p.m., with the burial at Union Grove Cemetery at Northboro.
