Margaret H. Orr, 83, passed away July 19, 2009 at the Health Care Center of Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames. Margaret was born January 9, 1926 to James Harold and Bess (Robinson) Orr of Columbus Junction, Iowa.

She graduated from Cotter High School, from Monmouth College, and received her Masters in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin. Margaret worked as a bookmobile librarian in Indiana and later served as a librarian in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Returning to the state of Iowa in 1959, Margaret was employed for 30 years in the ordering department of Parks Libraron the Iowa State University campus.

Following retirement, Margaret volunteered at Worldly Goods in Ames, served as a reader for elementary students, and offered her expertise as a librarian for Northcrest Community. She especially treasured reading, traveling, church, keeping in touch with family and friends, and attending concerts and productions on the ISU campus. She was a charter member of Altrusa Club of Ames and a member of P.E.O. Chapter AA of Ames. Other memberships included the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and Beta Phi Mu a National Library Science Honorary Fraternity. Margaret was a dedicated member of Collegiate Presbyterian Church having served as an ordained elder and deacon.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mildred Shogren, and her nephew-in-law, Robert Meade. She is survived by brother-in-law, Lloyd Shogren of Donnellson, Iowa; niece, Kathy (Neil) Fell of Garner, Iowa and children, Matt and Janeen; nephew, David (Ann) Shogren and son Dan of St. Helena, California; niece, Diane (Dan) Dvorak of Iowa City, Iowa and children, Nate Dvorak, Tara Meade, and Tyler Meade; niece, Connie (Jim) Beatty of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and son, Sam.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Collegiate Presbyterian Chapel in Ames with visitation one-hour prior. A private family burial service will be held at Columbus City Cemetery in Columbus City, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Collegiate Presbyterian Church of Ames or to the Northcrest Foundation.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
