LETTS, Iowa – Louise Padgett, 100, of Letts, died Monday, May 25, 2009, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009, at the Letts United Methodist Church. Reverend Mike Townsley and Reverend Kimberly Bowles officiated the service. Honorary bearers were Deanna Clevenger, Kristi Padgett-Truitt, and Nicolas Padgett-Truitt. Casket bearers were Greg Padgett, Christopher Padgett, Mark Bohling, Keith Padgett, Kevin Clevenger, and Steve Schomberg. Burial was in the Letts Cemetery.

Visitation was from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Mercy Hospice. Online condolences for the Padgett family may be left at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Louise was born on June 9, 1908, in Cotter, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick C. and May Chown Schomberg. She married John W. Padgett on April 11, 1936, in Mt. Vernon. He preceded her in death in 1993.

Prior to her marriage, she taught in Franklin Grove, Illinois, and Sandy Grove School in Letts, Iowa.

She was a member of the Chapter T. of the T.T.T., Letts United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her son, J. Riley Padgett of Letts; three grandchildren, Kristi Padgett-Truitt of Letts, Gregory Padgett of Letts, and Christopher Padgett of Algonquin, Illinois; one great-grandson, Nicolas Padgett-Truitt; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Schomberg of Letts, and Emma Padgett of Dixon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, J. Neil Padgett, a daughter, N. Kathryn Padgett, one granddaughter, Vicki Padgett, one brother, Max Schomberg; and two sisters, Florence Schomberg Raymond, and Kathryn Schomberg Goddard.
