M. Doraine Lauer, age 86 of Mt. Union, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Henry County Health Center. The daughter of Harold B. and Grace (Buckley) Oldt, she was born December 22, 1922, at Washington, Iowa. On October 27, 1947, she married Dick W. Lauer in Winfield. She was a graduate of the Wyman High School and Iowa Wesleyan College. She taught at the Mt. Union School and Winfield Mt. Union School for 36 years. She attended the Mt. Union United Methodist Church and was a member of the U.M.W.; she was a member of T.T.T. and the American Legion Auxiliary; she was a member of Phi Beta Phi; She was a member of the first IWC girls basketball team and was one of two lady coaches in Iowa at the time to coach high school basketball.

Survivors include: her husband, Dick of Mt. Union; three daughters; Carolyn Lauer of Mt. Union; Janice Richers of Mt. Union; Kimberly Davis of Columbus Junction; six grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Oldt of Galesburg, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service was held Sunday, December 6, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Mt. Union United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sue Cubbage officiating; interment followed at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Friends called on Saturday from 2-6:00 p.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family met with friends from 4-6:00 p.m.

Memorials have been established for the Mt. Union United Methodist Church, Hospice, and the American Cancer Society.
