Junior Ronald Gipple, age 85, of rural Morning Sun, Iowa, died Saturday evening, August 1, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. The son of Frank and Franciana Hamilton Gipple, he was born on May 10, 1924 in rural Columbus Junction. He married Evelyn L. Tindall on March 19, 1949 at Cairo, Iowa.

He graduated from Wyman High School in 1942 as the Salutatorian of his class. He was a farmer and had also been an electrician.

Junior was an active member of more than 50 years of the Spring Run United Methodist Church, rural Columbus Junction, having served in many positions. He was a member of the Good Faith Masonic Lodge #235 of Winfield and was a Trustee for Marshall Township. He was also a member of the Louisa County Pork Producers, had been a 4H Leader, and had been involved with the Civil Air Patrol. He received a conservation award in 1986 from the Izaak Walton League and in 2004 received the Wildlife Habitat Owner of the Year for his conservation efforts. He was an avid sportsman loving nature and wildlife and especially enjoyed his pond. He also enjoyed woodworking.

His surviving family includes his wife, Evelyn; a son, James and Stephanie Gipple of Wapello; three daughters, Marilyn Steele of Mt. Pleasant, Connie Furlong of Waterloo, and Janice and Doug Webb of Wapello; ten grandchildren, Megan, Kara, and Dillon Gipple, Tony and Toby Steele, Andrea and Jessica Furlong, and Tiffany, Abby, and Brock Webb; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ray Gipple of Florissant, Missouri and Dean Gipple of Columbus Junction. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Max; and a granddaughter, Tina.

The funeral ceremony for Junior Gipple will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at the Spring Run United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Nancy Bender. Burial will follow at the Fulton Cairo Cemetery, rural Morning Sun. A lunch and fellowship will follow at the church.

Friends may call after noon on Wednesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello where Masonic Rites will be held at 6:00 PM followed by the family meeting friends until 8:00 PM.

A memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Spring Run United Methodist Church
