Betty J. Davis, 79, of Wapello, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine, Iowa.

Funeral services for Betty were 1:00 P.M., Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman of the Wapello United Methodist Church officiated. Casket bearers were Nathan Belzer, Trevor Belzer, Eric Belzer, Travis Lingafelter, Bob Bisenius and Kevin Davis. Honorary casket bearers were Keith Ziegenhorn, Darrel Belzer, Jack Bachtell, Mike Pugh and Aaron Thompson. Burial was in Ainsworth Cemetery. Visitation was held on Thursday, August 13th, from 4-7:00 pm at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Wapello Food Pantry and the Wapello United Methodist Church in Betty’s name. Betty Jean Coakley was born January 14, 1930 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Glen G. and Mildred Alberta Ebner Coakley. In 1946 Betty married C. L. Belzer, and they divorced in 1949. On February 14, 1981 Betty was united in marriage to Waldo Edwin Davis in Wapello, Iowa. She was a lifelong resident of Wapello and was employed by Sylvania Electric and at Leopold Furniture, both in Burlington, IA. Betty also had worked in the Louisa County Auditor’s office and as a bookkeeper at the Louisa County Care Facility. She was a member of the Wapello United Methodist Church where she participated in weekly Ladies’ Bible Study. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Wapello, and with her husband, Waldo, Betty was active in the Louisa County Shriners, cooking at many events. She enjoyed reading and needlework, making baby quilts for all the grandchildren.

Betty will be dearly missed by her sons, Terry L. Belzer and wife, Sylvia of Wapello and William G. Belzer and wife, Carla of Mount Pleasant, IA; one step-son, Kevin Davis and wife, Sharon of Muscatine; three step-daughters, Sharon Marnholtz and husband, Herb of Excelsior Springs, MO, Jane McCleary and husband, Tom of Morning Sun and Lisa Schneider and husband, Steve of Wapello; one step-daughter-in-law, Bonita Davis of Independence, IA; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Bachtell and husband, Jack of Hiawatha, Iowa.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Waldo “Honk” Davis in January 1998; two grandchildren; and one stepson, Darrell Davis.
