Alice Reschly Davis, age 86, of Washington died Friday, February 20, 2009, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a short illness.

Celebration of life services were held at 1:30 pm Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Salem Welsh Presbyterian Church in rural Columbus Junction. Visitation began at 11:00 am Sunday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family received friends from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Interment took place at Cambrian Cemetery. Alice was born on January 15, 1923 on her family’s farm south of Wayland, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Anna Christina (Hunt) Reschly. Alice attended country school in Henry County and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1940. She completed her two-year certificate at Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1946. In 1950, Alice graduated from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana with a Bachelor’s degree in English. In 1962 Alice graduated with a Masters degree in English from the University of Iowa. She taught at Sommers School in rural Washington County from 1941-1942, Crawford School in Henry County from 1942-1943, Wyman Community Schools from 1943-1949, West Chester High School from 1950-1952, Wyman High School from 1952-1954, Hesston High School in Hesston, Kansas from 1954-1959, was a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Iowa from 1959-1961, and taught English and Spanish at Rochester Junior College from 1961-1976. She was united in marriage to Donald Lee Davis at his home north of Wyman, Iowa on August 15, 1976. Alice was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Women Teachers Sorority, and Salem Welsh United Presbyterian Church.

Alice is survived by her husband, Donald Davis of Washington; a brother, James Reschly and wife, Helen of Washington; a sister, Susan Gilmere and husband, Harold of Washington; sister-in-law, Sonja Mullens Reschly of Mt. Pleasant, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Joanna Reschly; Donald Reschly; Richard Reschly; Catherine Reschly Fort; Robert Reschly; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Askea Reschly.
