Jack Lawrence Estle, 87, of Letts, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Colonial Estates Assisted Living in Columbus Junction.

Private graveside services will be held at Indian Creek Cemetery. Rev. Collette Gould will officiate. There was a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Commissioned Lay Pastor Ramona Wink officiated. Following the Memorial Service there was a time of food and fellowship at the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post #100, 99 2nd Street. There was no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the 4-H Foundation, the Tri-Rivers Conservation Foundation or Letts United Methodist Church in Jack’s name. Jack Lawrence Estle was born August 31, 1923 in rural Columbus Junction, the son of John L. and Orpha M. (Foster) Estle. He was a US Army veteran from August 1943 to December 1945, serving in Europe for 21 months and receiving two purple hearts. On March 17, 1946 Jack was united in marriage to Lois Louise Hafner in Letts. He was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church was a life long farmer in the Letts area, retiring after 43 years. He served as Louisa County Supervisor from 1989 to 2001 and was a member of the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post #100, the Muscatine Elks Lodge #304, the Louisa County Farm Bureau, the Grandview-Letts Lions Club and the Columbus Junction Community Club. Jack was a director for the Columbus Junction State Bank and attended the United Methodist Church Men’s Breakfast Club. He enjoyed playing bridge and other card games, visiting with people and especially, spending time with his family.

Jack will be dearly missed by his daughters, Dianne Bohling and her husband, Al of Columbus Junction and Nancy McConahay and her husband, Mike of Letts; three grandchildren, Brandon Bohling and his wife, Denise, Joseph Bohling and Christopher McConahay; and one great-grandchild, Bryce Bohling.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
