Martha Ellen (Caldwell) Moore, 92, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Reverend John Monger of the Washington Reformed Presbyterian Church officiated. Casket bearers were Stephanie Marshall, Lynne Zinnel, Jeff Eggebeen, Eric Zinnel, Mark Moore, and Steven Moore. Honorary casket bearers were John Currie, Paul Duncan, Lester Bausch, Brian Cummings, Jim Howell, and Don Wilson. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday, March 29, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. After the committal there was a time of refreshments and fellowship for friends and family at the Columbus American Legion. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Martha’s name. Martha Caldwell was born June 26, 1917, in Morning Sun, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur and Emma (Kennedy) Caldwell. She graduated from Tarkio College in 1940. She taught school in Nisnabatna, Rose Hill, and Sigourney, IA. On February 26, 1944, Martha was united in marriage to Burdette Moore. Following the end of WW II, they returned to Columbus Junction to farm and raise their family. Martha was active in the Columbus Junction community all her adult life. She was active in church activities. She was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Washington, where she taught Sunday School and served as church treasurer. Martha served on the Columbus Community school board from 1969 – 1993. During her term on the board, she served as president and vice-president and oversaw two major construction projects at the school. Martha was also active in Louisa County 4-H where she was a leader of the Cloverleaf Club for ten years and served on the county committee. She was also active in the Louisa County Republican Committee and was a delegate to many county and state Republican conventions. She served on the Columbus City township election board for many years. She sold Tupperware for 10 years, earning many awards for her sales. She was a member of the Half Hour Club where she served as President, Vice-President and Secretary. She was a member of the Cedarcrest Country Club and enjoyed many hours of golfing with her family and friends, especially the Tuesday afternoon ladies club.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jean and Bob Whyte, Lakewood, Colorado, Alice and Stan Zinnel, Mason City, IA, Joyce and Steve Eggebeen, Oostburg, WI, Keith Moore, Shawnee, KS, and George and Anita Moore, Washington, IA; six grandchildren Stephanie (Joel) Marshall, Lynne Zinnel, Jeff (Terri) Eggebeen, Eric Zinnel, Mark (Jes) Moore, and Steven Moore; and one great-grandchild Jericho Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Burdette, in 1964, her daughter, Mary in 2005, and four brothers, Homer, Glen, Wallace and Philip.
