James A. Whipple

James A 'Jim' Whipple, 61, of Wapello, Iowa, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa city following an 18-month battle with cancer.

Jim was born on January 17, 1948, in Washington, Missouri, the son of Lawrence and Virginia 'Lorraine' Rauhaus Whipple. He married Denise Pogemiller on January 30, 1970, in Ames, Iowa.

Jim graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1966. He attended Iowa State University.
Jim worked for Bandag in Muscatine from 1972 to the present. During the early years, he traveled all over the world, including all 50 states. He truly enjoyed his work and the people he encountered along the way. Jim enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and was a crossword puzzle enthusiast. He truly loved taking his granddaughter Diana Whipple for boat rides, watching all the sporting events of Kolt and Kash Rossiter and taking granddaughter Kwynlan Rossiter fishing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Denise: four children, son Marcus (Wendy) Whipple of Matteson, Illinois, daughter Kim (Kurt) Rossiter of Crawfordsville, Allison (Joe) Malandra of North Liberty, and Lindsey (Eric) Hausknecht of Burlington: and his four grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother and three sisters, Gail Bennett of Peoria, Illinois, Twila Martin of Iowa City, and Martha Noll of Farmington, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his father and a childhood brother, Gerald.

The funeral ceremony for Jim Whipple will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009, at the Dudgeon McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, officiated by Mr. Andy Moser. Burial will follow in the Wapello Cemetery.

Visitation was after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family met with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established.
