Evert E. Vineyard

Evert Edwin Vineyard, 84, of Wapello, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center. The son of Tom W. and Lila M. Wallace Vineyard, he was born August 17, 1925, rural Bonaparte, Iowa. He married Esther E. Pender and February 14, 1948; she died December 13, 1982.

He was a graduate of the Keosauqua High School, class of 1942.

He farmed with his father until he joined the United States Navy in March of 1944, serving until May of 1946. While in the Navy he served in the South Pacific and was involved in several major engagements, including Iwo Jima.

Evert farmed for several years until he went to work for Benner Tea Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1983. After retirement he enjoyed spending winters in Texas, traveling, wood working and gardening.

Survivors include: two sons, Ed & Diane Vineyard of Wapello and Earl and Kathi Vineyard of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Wendi Vineyard, Tanya Patzer, Elizabeth Vineyard, Valerie Vineyard-Gipple, Craig Vineyard and Brian Vineyard; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Nick and Brooke Patzner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brothers and an infant brother.

The funeral service will be held Friday, November 27, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, which the Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Bonaparte Cemetery, Bonaparte, Iowa.

Friends may call from 9 to 10:00 a.m. Friday prior to the service at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family will meet with friends.

A memorial in his name was been established for local Veteran Groups.
