Passing of Well Known Character.
News has been received of the death of George W. Kuder at the home of his daughter, Helen, Mrs. Arthur Rasely, at Cedar Rapids Saturday evening, September 15, 1906. He was one of the earliest settlers in Louisa County, having come here from Ross County, Ohio, in 1840, and this has been his home ever since, until a few months ago, when he went to live with his daughter, at whose home he died. He was past ninety years of age and was for many years a prominent farmer and stock dealer in Grandview Township. He was twice married and leaves a number of sons and daughters. His second wife has been living with one son in Spokane, Washington for some years.
Since the loss of his fortune, a number of years ago, Mr. Kuder has lived a somewhat roving life. Misfortune and creeping old age robbed him of his mental balance and set him adrift in the world, until his daughter persuaded him to make his home with her a short time before he died. His life illustrates the strange ups and downs that come to men in the midst of life. Sadness marks the closing years of a once prosperous and promising career.
