Ernest “Bud” Howard

Ernest Frank ‘Bud’ Howard, 60, rural Morning Sun, died Thursday morning, April 3, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.

The funeral service was at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating. Burial followed at the Wapello Cemetery. Music was provided by Geneva Samuels, organist, and Lori Doolin and Bev Moser, vocalists. The pallbearers were Eric Stewart, Lee Stewart, Jamie Stewart, Jason Stewart, Chris Howard, Jeff Peterson and Gene Russell.

Visitation was Saturday at the funeral home where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund has been established.

The son of George and Gertrude Driebus Howard, he was born November 23, 1942, at Shenandoah, Iowa. He married Doris E. Stewart on June 4, 1967 at Burlington.

He graduated from Shenandoah High School and received his education degree at Maryville College in Missouri. He obtained his Master’s degree from Kirksville College in Missouri. He taught Drivers Education and Business Education at Morning Sun High School from 1966 until 1990.

He was a member of the Morning Sun Lions Club. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Doris; a son, Michael and Karlee Howard of Morning Sun; two daughters, Michelle and David Mann of Flowery Beach, GA, and Miranda and Curt Schoonover of LeMars; six grandchildren; and a brother, Ron Howard of Red Oak.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
