Marjorie L. Schneider

Marjorie Lee Schneider, 67, Wapello, died Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2003, at The Great River Medical Center at West Burlington, Iowa. The daughter of A.R. ‘Pete’ and Blanche Catherine Marshall McConahay, she was born March 7, 1936, at Morning Sun, Iowa. She married D. Douglas Schneider on December 27, 1959, at Morning Sun.

Marjorie graduated from Wapello High School in 1954 and from Burlington Nursing School in 1957. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Burlington until her husband’s military career took her to various locations including a year in Germany, two years in The Netherlands, and then times in Michigan, Florida, and Kansas before they came back to Wapello in 1975. She then worked as a teller at the State Bank of Wapello for about 20 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Wapello and the Wapello Study Club. She enjoyed gardening and needlework along with collectible houses.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Lynette S. Schneider of Apple Valley, Minn., Lisa and Jed Vorba of Mason City, and Kelli Stott of Belleville, Ill.; two sons, Kevin and Sue Schneider of Cedar Falls and Leslie and Elizabeth Schneider of Honolulu, Hawaii; six grandchildren, Steven, Anthony, Eric and Brandon Stott and Lincoln and Morgan Vorba; three sisters, Betty Perkins of Morning Sun, Charlotte Schroeder of Oceanside, Calif., and Phyllis McKinney of Wapello; and two brothers, Larry McConahay of Iowa City and Keith McConahay of West Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Karen, and two brothers, Robert McConahay and Wayne McConahay.

Following private family viewing and cremation the memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at the United Methodist Church in Wapello with the Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Music will be provided by Bev Parsons, organist, and Alana Poage, vocalist. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

The family will gather and meet with friends for lunch at the Briggs Civic Center in Wapello following the service.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the VFW Auxiliary and the Wapello Rescue Unit.
