Mrs. O.J. Derby Dies at Burlington Hospital.
Anna Benz Derby was born in Muscatine, October 18, 1864, and died March 18, 1916, at the Hospital in Burlington, her age being 51 years and 5 months.
She was united in marriage to Oliver J. Derby on March 4, 1886. To this union five children were born: Paul, residing near Letts, and Harve, Ethel, Earl and Frank, all at home.
She leaves to mourn her departure besides her children, a husband, one sister and one brother, Mrs. H.J. Jeffries, of Muscatine, and Jacob W. Benz of near Grandview. Two sisters preceded her in death, Mrs. J.W. Hintermeister, who passed away October 13, 1911, and Mrs. W.F. Nelson, who passed away June 18, 1914.
Mrs. Derby's death brings grief to a host of other relatives and friends who will greatly miss her kindly sympathy, cheerfulness and good will.
She was converted at the Evangelical church in her youth, and just before her final summons, she spoke to her husband and made known that she was ready to go to her Redeemer, and calling her children to her bed side, bade them all goodbye, and to meet her in heaven.
The funeral services were held from the home Monday, March 20th, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. H.W. Cannon of Grandview, and the large attendance of friends and the profusion of flowers attested the big esteem in which deceased was held in the community. Interment in Harrison cemetery.
