Merle Deppey Ball, age 91, of Wapello, died Tuesday morning, November 23, 1993 at the Wapello Nursing & Care Center.

The son of Alvah and Estella Deppey Ball, he was born February 15, 1902, rural Wapello. He was a lifelong farmer. He had graduated from Wapello High School in 1921. His marriage to Bessie M. Hall at Columbus City was on March 4, 1926. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello and the Louisa County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie; three daughters, Betty (Mrs. John) McCulley of rural Wapello, JoAnne (Mrs. Roger) Campbell of Oakville, and Lois (Mrs. David) Banks of Misawa, Japan; one son, Warren Ball of rural Wapello; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one brother, Glenn Ball of Meridian, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth French and Gladys Kitchen; and an infant son.

The funeral service for Merle Ball was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 1993 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, with Rev. Ed Philgreen officiating. Mary Kilpatrick provided the organ music. The casket bearers included Bob McCulley, Mark McCulley, John McCulley Jr., Doug Campbell, Wayne Hyde, and Danny Yakle. The honarary bearers included Mark Haganman, Delbert Finley, Lyle Short, Terry Gillette, Richard Kerr and Jack Samuels. Burial followed at the Long Creek Cemetery.

The family met with friends Friday evening at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church.
