Mabel Leah Kemp, age 95, of Wapello and formerly of Grandview, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, November 24, 1993 at the Wapello Nursing & Care Center.

She was born on November 16, 1898 in Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary Hahn Kemp. She had attended the Grandview Academy and then graduated from Muscatine High school in 1916. She taught for three years in rural Muscatine. After graduating from Iowa State Teachers College, she taught for more than 40 years at the Grandview Elementry Schoo.

She was a Charter member of the Grandview Community Bible Church and more recently had actively attended the First Presbyterian Church at Wapello. She was a Life Member of the Iowa State Education Association, and a member of both the Iowa and National Retired Teachers Association, She was also a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the Louisa County Historical Society, and the Iowa State Historical Society.

survivors include three sisters, Zella Peck of Mediapolis, Ethel Buster of Wapello, and Ruth Townsley of Donnelson; one brother, Kenneth Kemp of Geneseo, Illinois; five nieces and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lila Airhood and Grace Kopf; and one brother, Philip Kemp.

The funeral service for Mabel Kemp was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 1993 at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Young officiating. Phyllis McCulley provided the organ music and Catherine Hadley the vocal music. The casket bearers included Paul Kopf, Henry Kopf, Carl Buster, Robert Bosch, David Thompson, and Warren Hadley. Burial followed at the Grandview Cemetery. The family met with friends Saturday evening at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefits of the Grandview Community Blble Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Wapello.
