Lorene Carder, age 82, formerly of Oakville and Wapello, died Sunday, May 29, 1994, at the Elm View Care Center, Burlington.

She was born February 16, 1912, at Mayfield, Kentucky the daughter of William and Una Berry Baxter. She married Arvel S. Carder on December 22, 1929, at Fultom, Kentucky. He died December 1, 1993.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Oakville. She had worked at the Iowa Ordanance Plant at Burlington and then later as a nurses aid at the Des Moines County County Home and the Burlington Hospital.

Survivors include one daughter, Sue McCord of Burlington; two sons, Billy Joe Carder of Burlington and Edward S. Carder of Corydon, Indiana; eight grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arvel; two sons, Jim and Bob; a grandson; two sisters; and a brdother.

The funeral service for Lorene Carger was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, with Rev. Ed Philgreen officiating. Bev Parsons provided the organ music. Casket bearers were Taylor Robinson, Denny Robinson, Mike Carder, Doug Carder, Wade Kerr, and Scott McCord. Burial followed at the Edwards Cemetery, Oakville.

A memorial has been established for the benefit of the American Cancer Society.
