Frances Matilda Cline, a resident of the Sunrise Terrace Nursing Home at Winfield and formerly of Mediapolis, died Friday morning, Nov. 6, 1998, at the Henry County Health Center at Mt. Pleasant.

The daughter of Charles and Matilda Olsen Walberg, she was born May 21, 1909 at Mediapolis. She married Samuel L. Cline on May 22, 1937 at Mediapolis; he died May 24, 1976.

She graduated from Huron High School in 1927 and attended Cornell College at Mt. Vernon and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She then taught at the North Jackson rural Des Moines County School until her marriage. She was a homemaker on the farm. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Mediapolis. Frances was an artist and loved to draw. She enjoyed cats, flowers and gradening. She was a seamstress.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Best of Iowa City and Barb Schnicker of Mediapolis; a son, Mike Cline of Burlington; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice DeFosse of Mediapolis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel; two sisters, Sadie Greiner and Martha Swanson; and two brothers, Robert and Carl Walberg.

Visitation was Sunday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Medapolis where the family met with friends in the afternoon.

The funeral service for Frances Cline was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at First Presbyterian Church at Mediapolis with the Rev. H. Dick Reynolds officiating. Music was provided by Junellen Chiprez as organist. The casket bearers were Dave Trevitt, Ken Friedel, Sandy Hedges, Dale Luckenbill, Wayne Beckman and Jon Fye. Burial followed at the Kossuth Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Sunrise Terrace Alzheimer's Unit.
