Dr. Roy Everett Ostrem, 68, of Columbus Junction, a dentist and community leader, died May 12, 1993, in his office.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 1993, at the United Methodist Church of Columbus Junction, with the Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Donna Belle Hughes was the organist and Paul Duncan was soloist. Casket bearers were Paul Bailey, Leroy Hughes, Sam Bell, John Conklin, Verl Lekwa and Don Fairlie. Honorary casket bearers were Harold Drinkall, Kenneth McCoy, Warren May, Woodrow Shearer, Russel Newell and Max Sellers.

Burial was in the Cambrian Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Columbus Junction Public Library. Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Ostrem was born April 4, 1925, in Forest City to Chester J. and Anna Prescott Ostrem. He married Ardith W. Cadwalader on March 25, 1950, in Iowa City.

He spent the early years of his life in Des Moines and graduated from North High School.

He entered the Army in 1943, serving in the Pacific and earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After his discharge in 1946, he attended the University of Wisconsin and Drake University. He graduated from the University of Iowa School of Denistry in 1951, then went on to serve nearly 42 years as a dentist in Columbus Junction.

Dr. Ostrem was a member of the PSI Omega Dental Fraternity, the Iowa Dental Association, and the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, In 1952, he was the first president of the Columbus Junction Jaycees. He served on the town council from 1960 to 1968. He also was a life member of the American Dental Association.

Survivors include his wife; his mother, Anna Blumenstein of Columbus Junction; sister, Mrs. Richarde (Betty) Strickler of Des Moines; son, Kent Roy Ostrem of Oskaloosa; daughters, Mrs. Del (Laura) Meyer of Oak Park, Illinois, Mrs. Ray (Lisa) Dickhaner of Imperial, Missouri, and Mrs. Larry (Nancy) Wiegel of Lowden; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
