William Wale McDowell, 61, Wapello, died Wednesday at Muscatine General Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. The Rev. Orville Jank will officiate. Burial will be in the Wapello Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 9 o'clock this evening. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home.

The son of William E. and Mary Robb McDowell, he was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Leon, Iowa.

His marriage to Arlene Burroughs took place March 29, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He had served in the Medical Corps of the European Theater during World War II. Mr. McDowell had been maintenance supervisor at Thatcher Plastics for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Larry of Wapello, Stephen of Muscatine and William Edward, at home; three daughters, Billie Jo Gilpin of St. Joseph, Mo., and Coleen Schell and Tery Lynn Everett, both of Wapello; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Glen of Washington State, James of Los Angeles, Calif., and Thomas of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Helen Mattson of Luck, Wis., and Mary Louise Riley of Macon, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
