Thomas Dean Downs, age 49, of rural Wapello, Iowa, died Monday, May 20, 1996 at his home.

The son of Dean and Lola Wilson Downs, he was born July 31, 1946 at Burlington, Iowa.

Tom graduated from Wapello High School in 1964 and graduated from the University of Iowa with a major in music. He taught instrumental music for three years at Winfield, Iowa. He was an accomplished musician and a carpenter.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello.

He is survived by his mother, Lola Downs of rural Wapello; a brother, Roger Downs of Decorah; a niece, a nephew, and a siter-in-law all of Decorah. He was preceded in death by his father.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Wapello Cemetery with Rev. John Ling officiating. There will be no visitation.

A memorial fund for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit has been established.
