Robert W. Hynes, 85, of Columbus Junction, died Thursday, June 5, 1997, at Community Care of America in Muscatine.

Born Dec. 2, 1911, in Lone Tree, he was the son of Will and Nettie Jonson Hynes. On May 15, 1934, he married Evelyn Masonholder in Columbus Junction.

Mr. Hynes worked for his parents for several years, then worked at Economy Stores (later Economar) until retiring in 1979. He immediately took over the pro shop at Cedarcrest Country Club in Columbus Junction and continued in that position until he was nearly 80 years old.

He was a 1929 graduate of Lone Tree High School. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion for more than 50 years. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and a lifetime member of the Methodist church.

He enjoyed attending athletic events of all kinds and traveling. He had been active in local civic activities.

Survivors include his wife of Muscatine and one son, Rob Hynes of Walnut Creek, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, George C. Eden.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home.

The funeral for Mr. Hynes will be 1:30 p.m. tuesday at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery.
