Richard C. Howe, 65, of 305 S. Cherry St., Mount Pleasant, died 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1987, at the Veterans Hospital, Iowa City.

Born July 4, 1922, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Frank S. and Hattie M. Thompson Howe. He married Jeanette V. Martin Nov. 25, 1945, in Mount Pleasant.

He attended Mount Pleasant High School. He owned and operated the Howe Shoe Service in Mount Pleasant for 32 years before retiring, and had worked a short time at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and survived the battles at Pearl Harbor and Wake Island. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, the American Legion Post 58, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2561, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and the Mount Pleasant Golf and Country Club.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Jill Howe, Independence, Mo., and Lisa Howe, Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Walter Howe, Manteca, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Frances (Willard) Scarff, Mount Pleasant, and Mrs. Margaret Hoelcen, Decatur, Ill.

Visitation will begin noon Friday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Weir Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant.

The service for Mr. Howe will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Weir Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the American Legion Post 58 and the Henry County Senior Citizens Center.
