Funeral services for 82 year old Frances Newell of Letts were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997 at the Letts Methodist Church, Letts. Burial was in the Indian Creek Cemetery.

Frances Newell died on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home.

Frances Elizabeth Flickinger was born May 22, 1915 at Lehigh, Iowa to Christian and Bessie Townley Flicker. Frances married William Thomas Newell May 31, 1940 in Lehigh.

Frances graduated from Dayton High School and then from Iowa State University, Ames with a degree in Home Economics. She taught school for 1 year in Castina, Iowa. Frances worked as a social worker for Muscatine and Louisa Counties for 9 years.

She was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Frances was a member of T.T.T.

Frances is survived by her three sons, Richard, Ankeny, Iowa; Tom, Fulton, IL; and John, Letts. There are 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Earl Flickinger of Lehigh.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, December 28, 1996, and two brothers, Ernest and Harold Flickinger.
