Funeral services for 90 year old Bessie Jones of Letts, Iowa was held on Monday, September 15, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction, Iowa. Visitation was held on Sunday at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m.

Bessie Jones died on Friday at the Colonial Manor Care Center, Columbus Junction. A memorial has been established for the Letts Library and the Letts First Responders. Burial was in the letts Cemetery.

Bessie Pearl Roach was born July 13, 1907 in West Chester, Iowa to John and Maude Thomas Roach, She married Nile A. Jones June 20, 1925 in Davenport, Iowa. Bessie had been a homemaker all her life. She was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church. Bessie had worked at the Louisa County Fair in the Floral Hall for many years. Bessie and Nile had farmed in the letts area for 54 years. After their retirement from the farm she and Nile had owned, trained and raced thoroughbred pacers. Bessie loved to travel and quilt.

Bessie is survived by her husband, Nile, Letts; two children, Jack and his wife Pat of Letts and Juli Humphreys of Fruitland. there are 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Edna and Yvonne, three brothers, Ernest, Ben, and John roach, a son, Ivan James Jones, and 1 great-grandchild.
