Bernice Beik, age 77, of Muscatine and fomerly of the rural Nichols and Grandview communities, died Wednesday afternoon, March 5, 1997 at the Muscatine General Hospital.

The daughter of John William and Leona Turner McLaughlin, she was born Sept. 16, 1919 at Mesa, Colorado. She married George Beik on December 24, 1937 at Washington, Iowa. He died April 4, 1984.

Mrs. Beik was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, and gradening, especially with flowers.

Survivors include two sons, Larry and Carolyn Beik of Muscatine and Stephen Beik of Nichols; three grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; a daughter Georgann; and a brother Russell McLaughlin.

A memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 1997 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, with Rev. Darrly Erickson officiating. Kathleen Hagele was the organist. Burial of the cremains followed at the Grandview Cemetery. There was no visitation.

A memoral fund has been established for the benefit of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Muscatine General Hospital.
