Benjamin Harrison Westbrook, age 77, of rural Wapello, Iowa, died Sunday, October 17, 1993 at the Muscatine General Hospital. The son of Benjamin Harrison, Sr. and Mable Wagner Westbrook, he was born February 10, 1916 at Grandview, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Grandview High School. On November 18, 1944 he married Gertrude Laeser. The couple farmed together and in the Wapello community since 1954.

He was a 50 year member of the Elks Lodge #304 of Muscatine and a member of the Louisa County Farm Bureau. He had also served in various capacities for the Louisa County A.S.C.S.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; a daughter, Jeri (Mrs. Roger) Bailey of Wapello; two grandchildren, Erin and Daniel Bailey; His mother Mable Westbrook of Muscatine; two sisters, Jeanetta Berkley of Des Moines and Jessie Lee Butcher of Bettendorf; and five brothers, Hartley of Ames, Frederick of Fairfield, Richard of Ankeny, Robert of Moline, Illinois, and Donald of California. He was preceded in death by his father.

The funeral service for Ben Westbrook was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 1993 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Young officiating. Bev Parsons provided the organ music. The casket bearers were Junior Weber, Robert Hook, Carl Veach, Clinton Cocklin, Kermit Peterson and Lewis Kammerer. Burial followed at the Wagner Cemetery, rural Letts.

The family met with friends Tuesday evening at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the First Presbyterian Church at Wepello and the Wapello Rescue Unit.
