Beatrice "Bea" Thornton, 60, of Mount Pleasant, died at 12:44 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 1995, at the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born March 17, 1935 in Batavbia, she was the daughter of Albert and Ada Horning Smithhart. On Sept. 25, 1954 she married Donald W. Thornton.

Mrs. Thornton worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Lausers, and Old and New Things Plus. She also owned and operated Fashions Crossroad.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant, attended the Burlington Beauty Academy, and was an active support person for cancer patients.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Debra Blevins of Jamestown, Tenn., Terry Gately of Winfield, Teresa Howell of Burlington, and Dawn Thornton of Cedar Rapids, eight grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Smithhart of Burlington; four sister, Joyce Dorothy of Gravois Mills, MO, Virginia Butcher of Wapello, and Peggy Volner and Margaret Schinstock, both of Salem and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece.
