Alice Pantel

Alice Louise Pantel, 87, of Fredonia, died Monday, March 24, 2003 at her home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established for the Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.

She was born August 15, 1915, in Letts, the daughter of Bert and Mollie Small Lowe. She married Wallace J. Ingersoll on March 10, 1936, in Yuma, Arizona. He died in June 1976. She then married Charles F. Pantel on December 31, 1977 in Santa Monica, California. He died in November 1990.

She attended the University of Northern Iowa from 1932-1933.

In 1959 she moved back to Iowa from the west and worked as a schoolteacher at Orchard Grove School near Wapello.

She enjoyed sports, horses, flowers, traveling, playing cards and visiting with friends and dearly loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include one son, Elbert “Jim” Ingersoll and wife Anita of Fredonia; two daughters, Loretta Kester and husband Gene of Kansas City, Mo., and Patty Lee Engroff and husband, Ronald, of Caddy Gap, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, Pam and Steve Bloomquist of Fruitland, Vickie and Doug Wilson of Columbus Junction, Jim and Kim Ingersoll of Columbus Junction, Kay and Dan Reeves of Fort Worth, Texas, Becky and Dustin Vaughn of Hot Springs, Ark., Alan and Cindy Nichols of Muscatine, Brenda and Gary Shamburger of Bates City, Mo., Rosie Walker of Kansas City, Mo., Todd and Deanne Mumm of Parnell and Ritch and Shelley Mumm of Cedar Rapids; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandson; and her sister, Mary Lucille Dreller and husband Richard of Daphne, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a daughter, Robert Jane “Mickey” Robbins, a grandson, Robbie Robbins, a great-grandson, Robert Walker, and a brother, Gerald Berton “Bud” Lowe.
