Barbara Holmquist

Barbara Helen Holmquist, 83, of Wapello, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center in Wapello. The daughter of Ray and Ina Curran Barrick, she was born September 21, 1919, rural Morning Sun. She married Raymond William Holmquist on September 17, 1938.

She graduated from Wapello High School. For as a member of the Wapello VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She owned and operated her restaurant and tap in Wapello for 31 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Hall of Aurora, Colorado; three grandsons, Steve and Stacy Hall of Tucson, Arizona, Brian and Kris Hall of Mesa, Arizona, and Dan and Stephanie Hall of Tiffin; six great-grandchildren, Nick, Nathan, Isaac, Ryan, Kelsey, and Megan; a brother, Fred and Mary Jo Barrick of Aurora, Colorado; and her companion Harvey “Bud” Jones of Wapello, along with his family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, a son, Gary Holmquist, and a brother, Dan Barrick.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, with the Rev. Mary N. Pugh officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6-7:30 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit.
