Marguerite O’Brien

W. Marguerite O’Brien, 89, of Wapello, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. The daughter of Jessie and Maude Bell Carter, she was born December 26, 1913, at Oakville. She married John P. O’Brien on November 25, 1938, at St. Patrick, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1995.

She graduated from Oakville High School. She taught elementary school at various schools including Huron, Oakville, and Wapello. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Oakville and Wapello.

She enjoyed sewing, painting, cooking, and many other handiwork activities.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth McGaan of Wapello and Letha Hinote of Unionsville, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, three sisters, Geneva, Evelyn and Eileen, and a niece, Barbara.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Oakville, with the Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery, Oakville.

Open visitation is from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

A memorial fund has been established to benefit the United Methodist Church in Oakville.
