Mrs. Maria Ann Whister, after an illness of several weeks, passed away at her home, 1317 East Fifth street, at 5:50 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The cause of her death was old age and complications. Mrs. Whistler was well known in this city, having always been prominent in church and lodge work. She was a member of the United Brethren church, having become a member of the local church upon her making her home in this city. She was a member of the Ladie's Relief Corps, and was one of that order's most faithful workers.

Maria Ann Funk was born at Highspire, Dauphin county, Pa., on the 11th of January, 1833, and had attained the ripe old age of 77 years, 7 months and 4 days, at the time of her death. She was a daughter of Abraham Funk, an old time resident of Muscatine, who preceded her a few years in death. On February 16, 1850, she was united in marriage to Christian Whistler at Harrisburg Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Whistler came to this city in 1893, and later removed to Grandview, where they made their home for ten years, after which they again returned to this city, and have made their home here ever since.

She is survived by eight children, five sons and three daughters, who are: William H.H. of this city; Christian A.R., of Fairport; Mrs. Josephine Roberts, of this city; A. F. Whistler, of Plymouth, Ill.; Mrs Kate A. Wilmering, of Columbus Junction; Mrs. Maria Ann Elizabeth Kemp, of this city, and Charles B. Whistler, of Cedar Rapids. Her bereaved husband also survives her.
Two sisters also mourn her death--Mrs. J. Erb and Mrs. Catherine Bond, both of this city; also 27 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence 1317 East Fifth street. There will also be services at Greenwood Chapel. By request of the deceased, Rev. Hamyl, of Grandview, will have charge of the funeral ceremony, if it is possible to secure him. Interment will be made at Greenwood cemetery.
